First Aid at Work for David Lloyd Southampton West End
In May of this year, David Lloyd Leisure took control of 16 Virgin Active Health and Racquets Clubs. One of those clubs was the former Hampshire Health and Racquets clubs now known as the David Lloyd Southampton West End club, located next to the Ageas Bowl cricket ground.
I had previously completed the monthly lifeguard training when it was a Virgin Active club and have continued to do so since the transfer to David Lloyd. The club had also asked me if I could run a First Aid course for some new staff members and some people who had expired. I opened the course to other David Lloyd clubs and we ended up with 3 staff from Southampton West End and 2 staff from Ringwood. The majority of the staff had previously held a First Aid certificate but there was a staff member new to First Aid.
It was a very engaging course with all the candidates being able to give experience of either needing First Aid, performing First Aid or supporting someone doing First Aid. All the candidates demonstrated excellent knowledge, and even managed to complete a game of First Aid Millionaire, but unfortunately for them there were no monetary prizes they seemed to be hoping for. Happy to say that all candidates passed the course successfully and I wish all of them the best in their clubs and careers and hope they don't have to use their practical skills too much!
